<tagline>I'm here. I'm really into photography in a big way, and am now a Buzznet Original as of 12/5/2007. I google on Google. Remember, "to google" is a verb, but "Google" is a proper name. I read a lot, shoot lots of photos, sing, and am learning to play a keyboard.</tagline>

Students from across the U.S. compete to replace the Google logo for a day as part of the Doodle 4 Google art competition. This is a competition where Google invited K-12 students to reinvent Google's homepage logo. This year they asked U.S. kids to doodle around the theme "What if...?"

I was too late to enter this year, and my school didn't participate... but I'll be there next year for sure!

The entries are in, and they are impressive. Google received thousands of wonderful doodles, and choosing 40 finalists for the public vote had to be one of the most difficult but enjoyable jobs at Google in the past few weeks.

Check it out here at Doodle 4 Google and vote for your favorite by May 18th!

Your votes will help google a national winner to replace our usual logo on the Google homepage on May 22, 2008. And please see my Doodle 4 Google video.

She's always hungry, and will steal a sandwich from the kitchen counter if you leave it for just a moment.

Some of the scenes one can find at a zoo can be pretty funny, and some can be serious. The Philadelphia Zoo is a great place to go to find both. Like many other Philadelphia landmarks and institutions, this zoo is an American first. The charter establishing the Zoological Society of Philadelphia was approved and signed on March 21, 1859. Due to the Civil War, however, it was another 15 years before America's first zoo was ready to open.

The Zoo opened its gates on July 1st, 1874. I make the fifth generation in my family that has visited this zoo, so you might say that it's a family tradition.

An international effort known as Project Golden Frog was launched in 1999, to address declining populations of the Panamanian golden frog due to to a disease caused by a Chytrid fungus, along with the problems of illegal pet trade.

A captive population has been established by many zoos and aquariums, with the goal being to return these animals and their offspring to Panama. The Philadelphia Zoo is part of this international effort, which includes other zoos in Houston, Cleveland, Jacksonville, Little Rock, San Diego, Atlanta, Toronto, Costa Rica and other areas.

Amphibians are facing great threats. About a third of all amphibian species are threatened with extinction, and problems of habitat loss, pollution, and climate change have decimated frog populations and caused extinctions in Central America and Australia .
